Well-Being Program

Checkup: Examination of your overall health

For children, adolescents, adults, and seniors

Overview

Many people find themselves burdened with the responsibilities and daily stressors associated with work, finances, and family life. However, few take the time to look after themselves and attend to their health. Worse still, many visit walk-in clinics only when in pain or when a new health problem arises. Sometimes, those visits are sadly too late.

Althalia’s medical checkup program was designed to help members focus on the prevention and early detection of diseases and cancers by offering a multitude of medical investigations in one location and coordinated multi-visit appointments. Studies have shown that certain diseases or complications, especially certain cancers (e.g., breast, prostate, and colon), hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, and heart attack, can be prevented with early screening.

The program seeks

  • To determine your health status at the time of your visit.
  • To evaluate the possible risk factors related to your physical, psychological and nutritional health.
  • To assess your lifestyle habits.
  • To detect, early, different diseases or cancers.
  • To investigate anomalies.
  • To revise your medication (when necessary).
  • To establish treatment and disease-monitoring plans when necessary
  • To identify strategies to optimize your health by reducing risk factors and correcting deviant lifestyle habits

Althalia offers a wide variety of packages designed to provide members with personalized health services that best fit their individual needs. Members can either select from an extensive list of checkup packages or a program can be customized in consultation with one of Althalia’s doctors.

The primary drivers of choosing an appropriate checkup depend on age and lifestyle factors (e.g., tobacco use, eating habits, stress management, global travel) that pose different risks.
Althalia offers checkup programs adapted to any combination of factors related to age, family, professional lifestyle, and gender.

General First-Level Checkup

This general health checkup is designed for people aged 18–45 years with no genetic or personal risk factors.

Biological examinations:

Biological examinations address total platelet count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, glucose levels, renal function, uric acid levels, lipid profile, liver function, serology for hepatitis B and C (if immunization is necessary, then Ab HBS will be administered), thyroid health (i.e., administration of thyroid-stimulating hormone for screening of abnormalities in the thyroid gland), blood health (i.e., search for blood in stool), PSA by sex and age, and urine (i.e., sugar, protein, and blood content).

Medical examinations include:

  • A general review addressing medical and surgical history, personal and family history, pre-existing conditions, vaccines, lifestyle, current treatments, biometrics, and body mass index (BMI)
  • A cardiac examination, including an electrocardiogram (ECG) at rest and/or after effort according to your needs and physical condition
  • A radiological examination involving a chest x-ray (i.e., every two years unless risk factors are present)
  • A technical review, including ocular tonometry (i.e., screening for glaucoma), an audiogram, and pulmonary function tests.

According to examination results, supplementary examinations (e.g., coronary angiograms, pelvic scanner, real or virtual colonoscopy) may be proposed to further investigate certain situations.

General Second-Level Checkup

This more in-depth health checkup is aimed at people aged 18–45 years with specific risk factors. It includes laboratory analysis, thyroid evaluation, and digestive system assessment and ultimately issues a final conclusion with necessary recommendations.
